Herbs

Summer is approaching, herbs are here!

Herbs are great plants for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike. Not overly fussy, just good light and sufficient water. Perfect in a rooftop garden, bright window box, or a simple pot of basil by a kitchen window. Of course they can highlight your culinary skills too! Are you a person who can barely boil water for pasta? Well, if you can get through that part, chop some fresh herbs, add them to any dish and Voila! -you've gone from line cook to gourmet chef!

Or maybe you prefer to drink your herbs...

Basil Cucumber Mojito

Ingredients:

3 slices 1/4-inch-thick slices cucumber

8 leaves basil, or more to taste

2 lime slices

2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jiggers rum

2 raw sugar cubes

ice cubes as desired

1 splash club soda (optional)

1 cucumber wedge for garnish

1 sprig fresh basil for garnish

Put cucumbers, basil leaves, lime slices, rum, and raw sugar cubes into a metal cocktail shaker. Mash mixture together with a muddler until the sugar cubes have dissolved. Add ice, place lid onto the shaker, and shake vigorously; strain into a chilled glass tumbler filled with ice. Top cocktail with club soda and garnish with cucumber wedge and basil sprig.
