Weekly Plant Care Tip: Soil

This week we’re talking about soil. Picking out a good soil to pot your plants in is important and vital for the health of your plant.

Good potting soil promotes healthy roots by providing a balance of proper aeration, nutrition and moisture-holding capability. Certain types of soil contain different types of nutrition, so make sure you know what your plant requires.

The most important difference between soils is their ability to hold water. Some soils dry out more quickly than others, so it’s important when buying soil to know how much water your plant needs. Cacti need fast-draining soil that holds almost no moisture, while ferns need to be watered very frequently.

Nurseries and garden centers carry an excellent selection of packaged potting soils for every type of plant, so make sure you ask!
