Our plant pick this week is an Alocasia, also known as a "Shield Plant", "Kris Plant", or "Elephant Ears". They are an extremely unique looking houseplant, with a very high-contrast variegation on their leaves. A word of warning to cat lovers - these plants are poisonous to cats, so be sure to place it somewhere your furry friend won't be able to reach it.
In terms of care for your Alocasia, the plant should be out of direct sunlight, but in a bright room with indirect sun. They prefer to be moist at all times, but not soggy. For the 6" pot pictured below, we would recommend a thorough watering by soaking once a week. They are tropical plants that would prefer a higher humidity environment.
