Its Luau season! This is a very cool DIY to up your party appeal. The festive summer arrangement you see above was made in a hollowed out pineapple. No summer party is complete without a great fruit salad and now nothing will go to waste! Turn that empty rind into a vase!!
Watermelon is another fruit that lends itself well to this idea. You can use the same technique, hollow out the fruit and fill with water to use as a vase. But because the WATERmelon contains so much water, you can also use the watermelon flesh in the same way you would use floral foam. Find the flatter side of the watermelon and let that be the base, then cut a big wedge out of the top. Hardy flowers such as dendrobium orchids can be arranged directly into the fruit. I always like to make sure some of that beautiful watermelon color is visible through the blooms. Maybe go a little asymmetrical, let the orchids cascade out of one side and leave the watermelon flesh visible on the other. This arrangement won't last quite as long as a typical vase arrangement but your luau centerpiece will absolutely steal the show!
