This week we’re talking about pruning. Removing dead, drying, or yellowing leaves from your plants in is important and vital for the overall health of your plant.

Remove brown and dying leaves from your house plants as soon as possible, but only if they're more than 50 percent damaged. Cutting off these dying leaves allows the remaining healthy foliage to receive more nutrients from the plant, and improves the plant's appearance. Without the dead leaves, your plant will use its energy distributing water and food to the healthy leaves, rather than wasting its energy trying to revive the dead. Plus, removing any decay will keep away unwelcome pests!

Successfully trimming your plant doesn’t require anything more than a good, sharp pair of scissors! If you don’t have one of those, plucking yellowing or dead leaves is usually pretty easy to do with just your hands.
