This time of year in Boston, students and renters swarm back to the city. Looking for something green to brighten up your new space? Here are some recommendations for easy, durable houseplants!
Dracaena will do well from very low light to very bright light, and need to be watered well about once a week, depending on how much light it receives.
Ferns are a typical houseplant, and for good reason! They will be happy with almost any light, and should be watered about once a week.
Haworthia, or zebra cactus, are a part of the succulent family. Therefore, they love bright sunlight and minimal water.
Sanseveria, or snake plant, are among the easiest houseplants to care for. They need water very infrequently, and will survive with extremely minimal light.

Tillandsia, or airplants, are an extremely easy and trendy plant. Just some nice bright indirect sunlight, and mist once a week!
Succulents are definitely the plant of the summer! Drought resistant and sunshine loving, they are perfect for patio season. We've planted some up in our favorite containers for this season. We used a combination of jade plants, pilea, and echeveria, together with textural elements such as pieces of cork and smooth stones.
Relatively new to the shop this week, the philodendron selloum! We absolutely love the funky shape of their leaves and their rich, dark green color. In terms of care, this type of philodendron is similar to other plants in that family:
Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. In lower light, their leaves will turn a darker green, and in too much or direct sun, the leaves will fade or get sunburnt.
Water: Water thoroughly once every 7-10 days. Keep soil consistently moist, but not soggy.
As with most houseplants, be sure to keep away from heating/AC vents and any drafty windows and doorways.

Our plant pick this week is a favorite among our staff and customers - the Fiddle-Leaf Fig tree! These trees are native to western Africa, and grow in lowland tropical rain forests. They are available in both a topiary and bush style, ranging from about 3 feet to 6 feet tall.
While the fiddle-leaf can have a bit of a difficult reputation, the trees really just need a very bright room with as much direct sunlight as possible and away from any drafts (such as heating or air conditioning vents). They should only be watered when the soil is wet to the touch, or thoroughly once a week.
